Anak Krakatau eruption disrupts hundreds of flights in Indonesia

Indonesia’s Anak Krakatau volcano recorded two additional eruptions on Tuesday, extending a series of explosive events that have been generating ash plumes over the surrounding seas. The eruptions were detected by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) and confirmed by satellite imagery, which showed ash reaching altitudes of up to 3,000 meters above sea level. Authorities have maintained a 4‑kilometer exclusion zone around the crater and have issued aviation advisories warning pilots of reduced visibility and potential engine damage.

The continued ash emissions have prompted heightened monitoring by both Indonesian disaster agencies and international aviation bodies, which have updated flight routes to avoid the affected airspace. Local fishermen have reported thicker ash fall on nearby islands, though no injuries or structural damage have been reported so far. Officials emphasized that the volcano remains active and that further eruptions are possible, urging residents and maritime operators to stay informed through official channels.
