Algeria bans UAE civilian and military aircraft after cutting diplomatic ties

Algeria announced on Monday that it has severed diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates and prohibited all Emirati civilian and military aircraft from entering its airspace, describing the move as a response to “provocative and hostile acts” by the Gulf state. The decision, which was communicated through a statement from the Algerian foreign ministry, also includes a suspension of any future diplomatic missions or consular services between the two countries.

While the ban applies to all non‑commercial flights, the Algerian government clarified that commercial airline services to Algiers will continue uninterrupted until the end of 2026, allowing existing passenger routes to operate while diplomatic ties remain suspended. The measure marks a significant escalation in bilateral tensions and underscores Algeria’s stance against actions it deems detrimental to its national security.
