Albanian protesters throw eggs at lawmakers' cars outside parliament

Protesters gathered outside Albania’s parliament in Tirana on Thursday, throwing eggs at the vehicles of lawmakers in a symbolic act of dissent. The demonstrators, who were demanding changes to a series of laws they say undermine democratic governance, lined the streets in front of the building and hurled the eggs as they attempted to disrupt the lawmakers’ departure.

The protest was part of a broader wave of civic unrest that has seen citizens rally against perceived corruption, sluggish judicial reforms and restrictions on media freedom. Police moved in to disperse the crowd and secured the lawmakers’ vehicles, but several eggs landed on the cars and the surrounding pavement. No injuries were reported, and the lawmakers were escorted to safety by security personnel.

Government officials condemned the vandalism but acknowledged the protesters’ grievances, promising a review of the contested legislation. The incident has intensified calls for clearer legal reforms and a more open dialogue between the government and civil society groups.
