AI Tools May Weaken Business Messaging, Study Shows
Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT are increasingly popular among business owners for drafting polished pitches, business plans and other corporate communications. However, new research from the University of Manchester and Canada’s University of Alberta warns that the widespread adoption of these tools could ultimately undermine effective audience engagement.
The study examined how AI‑generated content differs from human‑written material in tone, originality and emotional resonance. Findings suggest that while AI can produce well‑structured and error‑free text, it often generates generic phrasing and lacks the nuanced storytelling that builds trust with consumers. The researchers argue that this homogenisation of corporate messaging may dilute brand identity and reduce the persuasive impact of communications, leading to lower audience retention and weaker customer relationships.
Industry experts caution that businesses should balance the efficiency gains of AI with strategies that preserve authentic voice and human insight. The research underscores the need for careful editorial oversight and a hybrid approach that combines AI assistance with human creativity to maintain clear, compelling communication with audiences.
