AI gold rush draws crypto firms away from Bitcoin
Bitcoin’s market value climbed modestly in August, rising from roughly $25,000 at the start of the month to just above $30,000 by its close, according to data from major exchanges. The rebound, however, remains well short of the cryptocurrency’s all‑time high of about $68,000 recorded in November 2023, leaving the asset roughly 55 percent below its peak despite the recent uptick.
The price correction has prompted several large mining operators to adjust their strategies, with firms such as Riot Platforms, Marathon Digital and Bitfarms announcing plans to retrofit existing facilities with newer, more energy‑efficient ASIC miners. The upgrades aim to lower operating costs and improve hash‑rate output while many companies also explore greater reliance on renewable power sources to offset the financial strain caused by lower Bitcoin valuations.
Analysts note that the combination of a modest price recovery and ongoing hardware upgrades could stabilize the sector’s profitability in the near term, but the market will continue to watch Bitcoin’s price trajectory closely, as sustained gains are needed to fully offset the lingering gap from its historic peak.
