11-Year-Old Boy Dies from Rabies in Canada After Bat Contact
Rabies, a viral disease that affects the central nervous system, remains a rare but lethal threat worldwide. While most cases are reported in tropical and subtropical regions, the infection can occur anywhere an animal carrying the virus bites or scratches a person. The disease is almost always fatal once clinical symptoms appear, making prevention and early intervention critical.
The virus is transmitted primarily through saliva, typically via bites from infected mammals such as dogs, bats, raccoons, and foxes.
