108 attacks on Palestinian journalists reported in July

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) released a statement on Thursday highlighting a sharp increase in threats to media workers, noting that more than 270 journalists have been killed in Gaza since the conflict escalated in October 2023. The syndicate’s report, compiled from field reports and corroborated by international monitoring groups, attributes the majority of deaths to airstrikes and ground operations targeting media facilities, as well as incidents of targeted violence against reporters covering the hostilities.

The PJS urged both Israeli and Palestinian authorities, as well as international bodies, to enforce existing protections for journalists under international humanitarian law and to investigate all incidents involving media personnel. It called for the establishment of safe zones for reporters and the rapid dissemination of verified information to prevent misinformation. The syndicate warned that continued impunity could further endanger press freedom and hinder the documentation of events in the region.
